Mocksville Trial Results

This weekend we drove to Mocksville for their agility trial. It was about a 2 hour drive, so we only competed one day. It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze. It was suppose to be a 2 ring 2 judge trial, but one of judges broke her ankle so we had 2 rings and one judge. We were there from 7:00 to 5:30. The trial is held at some softball fields. It was actually a nice location.

Clover and I didn't perform as well as I had hoped. The first run was a Jumpers run. We Q ed and placed 1st, but she did go off course once and I had to bring her back.

The next run we had was a regular run. Clover had such a difficult time with the weaves that we lost a lot of time. We got the gamble, but I was so concerned about finishing the course on time that I let her fly over some contacts. That spoiled her for the rest of the day, because she flew over contacts in both touch and go and the other regular class. I hope I learned my lesson....

She also didn't Q in tunnelers because I was unable to turn her in time and took a wrong tunnel.

So we obtained one qualification in Jumpers and One in Gamblers. Those were 2 good ones to get because we got the Novice jumpers title and the Novice outstanding Gamblers title.

When we got home I got the board out to practice contacts. Its the same old story, we need to work on contacts and weaves.

Getting ready for NADAC Agility trial in Mocksville

This week Clover and I have been getting ready for the Agility trial in Mocksville. We ar only competing on Saturday, but will be running 5 runs. It is about a 2 hour drive, so we are going to have to get up very early. Hopefully it will not be as hot as it was this past weekend.

This week we were back at it full. I attended course of the week. We also had a YAC meeting to plan for the AKC trial in November. We finalized our logo and planned on getting shirts. They also have a new web site up. It is www.youngsvilleagilityclub.com. During COW we worked on weave poles, contacts and general conditioning.

Last night we had our Novice agility class at 8:30. I am also helping Leanne teach the obstacle proficiency class at 7:30. We had a regular run in Novice class that emphasized wraps and reverse flow pivots. Clover did very well.

Clover is running a little slower, but more cautious. It is easier to run her.

We are still having difficulty in the weave poles. Last night I noticed I was crowding her a little to much. Well see how she does this weekend.

Yesterday I tallied up Clover's Nadac Qs and I realized she obtained her novice regular and her novice tunnelers q this weekend.

ARF NADAC Trial Results

This weekend Clover and I competed in the ARF NADAC trial. I only competed on Sunday because we went to the Wisconsin Badger UNC football game on Saturday. Go Badgers!

It was a very hot trial. We competed in 5 classes-- Jumpers, tunnelers, touch and go and 2 regular classes. 5 classes--4 qs, not bad!

Here are the results:

The first jumpers run was a very good run. Unfortunately, I pulled Clover over a little bit on the last jump, so she went by it. In NADAC, once you go past the last jump, the timer stops. So even though I brought her back and successfully completed the jump, it was marked as missed because the timer stopped.

Clover did very well on all of her contacts. I would like her to be doing more of a stop at each contact. We are going to have to work on that. But at least she hit every one in this trial.

The only other class that we screwed up was our Second regular class. Clover just did not want to start the weave poles. I must have brought her back about 8 times. That ate up the clock. Since we were over time the gamble did not count, even though we did it very well.

I was very pleased with the weekend.

A USDAA trial without Clover

This weekend Teamworks hosted a USDAA Trial. I was registered for it but withdrew because I wanted Clover to recover from her injury a little more. She seems perfectly fine, but we are also competing the next 2 weekends in NADAC trials and I want to make sure she is in top shape for those.

I set up an apointment with Dr. Sherman at VetHab, and he will look at clover on Thursday.

I volunteered all weekend for the USDAA trial. It was not a very large trial but I was busy. I either timed, scribed or built courses most of the weekend.

Well maybe not OK...

It has been 2 weeks since clover hurt herself. On Thursday my wife called and said that clover was limping again, so we decided to have her looked at. After we took her to the vet, I realized she was limping on her front left foot, not the rear right, which she injured 2 weeks ago. Later in class, Michele said that it is not uncommon for a dog to injure the opposite foot that originally injured... in Clovers case, she hurt her rear right and later her front left became sensitive.

The vet watched her trot and looked her over and said the front foot was sensitive, and said all we could do is see how well she would do. Maybe see how she does in class and then make a decision about competing this weekend.

At class we ran 2 runs and she ran them very well, but she was limping after the second run on the front foot. So I decide not to run her at the USDAA trial at Teamworks this weekend. We have a NADAC trial the week after next, so I want to have her in top condition. I think I may see if I can get her to see Dr. Sherman, at vet hab.

I have also been asked to assist in the obstacle proficiency class on Thursday nights and I will still be volunteering all weekend at the USDAA trial this weekend.

...Ok now.

On Thursday night clover was considerably better. She had a slight limp and you could tell that she was favoring that leg, but the improvement was so good we decided not to take her in to have it looked at. ...and a week later, you would never know there was a problem. The only side effect is that usually she ate everything as soon as we put her food in front of her, but now, she has cabin fever so much that if we so much as move toward the door she is so distracted she will not finish her food.

I didn't go to course of the week last night and I think I missed a make up class on Tuesday, but we are going to go to class tonight. I ran her a little last night and she seems to be 100%. I will let you know how class goes... but I think we just got lucky.
